Nobleford was incorporated as a village in 1918. At that time there were
100 residents, and C.S. Noble was elected as the first mayor. Eleven years
later in 1929, electricity was introduced to the village through the Calgary
Power franchise.
1949 saw the construction
of the Niebor Hardware Store. The store realized excessive growth in the
early 1950's due to the development and expansion of the noble farm implement
industry, and the development of the manufacturing company Noble
Blade.
Established in 1930,
Noble Blade soon became the largest employer in the community. As the
company's payroll grew, so did the village population. Other local facilities
and amenities grew to meet the needs of the company and its employees.
Noble Blade was later sold and changed its name to New Noble, which closed
its doors in the fall of 1998. The building is currently occupied by two
vibrant businesses: Keho Industries and Agri-Tech Manufacturing.
Construction of a
water delivery and storage system was completed in 1953 under the Public
Works Program. Gas and sewage servicing followed in 1956 and 1959 respectively.
The Village Post Office was constructed in 1955, but has since relocated
to a structure completed in 1982.
Since its inception,
Nobleford has attracted, among others, many families of Dutch extraction.
Residents of Nobleford have built and maintained a neat, high quality
community, complete with paved streets, large parks and good recreational
facilities.
The Pioneer
Elevator was built in the 1930's and is still used for grain/fertilizer
storage.
The
growing community of 676 people has a solid, expanding industrial/residential base.
It is located 32 kilometres (19 miles) from the City of Lethbridge.
